Today I’ll be talking about the fabric requirements for the QAL and the schedule for what is going to happen when.
Schedule
Soo exciting that it’s almost time to start with the QAL! I already saw some quilters starting to prepare on instagram. Make sure to share your fabric picks or preparations with #PenguinParadeQAL so I can stop by and say hi!
Here’s what’s going to happen in the upcoming weeks:
Nov 4th Week 1 – Fabric week + preparation
Nov 11th Week 2 – Sewing blocks 1-3
Nov 18th Week 3 – Sewing blocks 4-6
Nov 25th Week 4 – Sewing blocks 7-9 + Optional Applique
Dec 2nd Week 5 – Quilt assembly and Giveaway
Dec 9th Bonus week – Quilting with rulers
Fabric requirements
There are two versions of the quilt. The 9 block quilt will turn out 53 x 53″. The 12 block quilt will measure 53 x 70″. Here’s what you’ll need for each of them.
This list mentions fabric for a penguin in the backing. The pattern includes a pattern for the backing that includes one penguin as well. This is just an option, feel free to use any type of backing for your quilt.
Ella Bella quilt
These Kona cottons are used in the Ella Bella quilt for the 12 penguins:
- Ice Frappe
- Candy Green
- Jade Green
- Honey Dew
- Chartreuse
- Parrot
- Buttercup
- Papaya
- Orange
- Peony
- Bubble gum
- Azalea
The background fabric for this quilt is Kona Ballet Slipper. I used a orange fabric with a small print (Coffee cups by Sassafras Lane) for the noses and feet of the Penguin.
Bright rainbow
The bright rainbow version penguins are made with print fabric by Sassafras Lane from the line Favorite Things. The background used in that quilt is Benartex Superior Solids Storm and for the bellies I used Kona Dove.
See you on the 4th of November
That’s it for this week. On the 4th of November I’ll be back with a blog post for our first week!
Hugs,
Irene
