We won’t be using our gift from day 13 today. You can save that for tomorrow.
We first need to put our quilt top together!
Have you figured out what it’s going to be?
Choo choooo! We’re making a winter or Christmas train that is on it’s way with a special delivery. There are still some pieces and details missing. Those will be added later. Today we assemble our quilt top.
Quilt top assembly
Here is the order in which you need to sew the sections together.
Sew section F to D
Sew section A to FD
Sew section AFD to E
Sew section AFDE to B
And finally sew section AFDEB to section C
Sew the 2 3/4 x 10 1/2 inch strip in background fabric that you cut on day 3 to the side of section C.
There is your quilt top finished! We will be adding some more details in the following days.
Sashing
Now we can add our happy striped sashing.
Cut two strips of 19 1/2 inch long from your striped sashing. And find the two 1 1/2 x 19 1/2 inch strips in background fabric that you cut on day 3.
Sew the striped sashing to the background strips.
This is where you can use the special pins you received earlier.
Maybe you like the double pins, maybe you find them making the process more difficult. Sometimes it’s just nice to get to try and see for yourself what you like.
What is your favorite pinning method for sewing with open pressed seams like these?
Finally, sew these pieces to the top and bottom of the train.
What are we making?
Now we know we are making a train. But what kind of project is it? Some of you already guessed, we are making placemats. That is why you have enough fabrics to make to of them. They always look better as a pair don’t you think?
its probably a house with a cheminee (where the smoke leaves the cheminee) on the roof, windows with e garden fense?🧐
I love it!!! I was right about it being a placemat, since we could make 2! I’m curious what we will add, I’m guessing wheels ;-)
