Fabrics! Oh don’t we love fabrics? Today we got our first fabrics for the advent project.
First things first
We will need to cut some bigger pieces from the off white fabric first.
Cut the following and set aside for later. The amounts below are for one project, cut double if you are making two at once.
– 1 strip: 2 3/4 x 10 1/2 inch
– 2 strips: 1 1/2 x 19 1/2 inch
– 4 strips: 1 x 5 1/2 inch
Sections A and B
After setting these pieces aside you can go ahead and sew sections A and B. Making pieces A2 and B1 the colored pieces, the rest will be off white.
When you finish sewing the sections you can square them up with a 1/4 inch seam all around.Ā
Here are the sections sewn with the fabrics of the winter color scheme.
The Christmas color scheme starts with a lovely dark pink:
Will we get to see both colorways?
Yes! I forgot to place the second image in this post. There will be images of the projects in both coloways.
Hi Irene, Iām so excited to start this project, especially because it is the first time for me to make a quilt. I have a question about the thread. Do I use the thread in the box and is this enough to make the two projects or should I use regular thread?
Hi Akkie, so exciting you first quilt! Yes you can use this thread for sewing the project š
I’m so excited to do this project, it was so much fun doing last year’s advent calendar! My question for today is just double checking – do we use the pieces of off white that we cut out for today’s steps, or are they all for future days?
The pieces mentioned to cut need to be set aside for later. They are not for the paper piecing.
So we need to cut them twice,at the beginning if we want to make two..?
Ok..maybe my question is answered already.. :-)
Is there enough fabric to make two???š¤āŗļø
Yes there is! What fabric are you worried about? š
Thank you Irene!!! I just wanted to know if all the fabrics will be enough for 2 – then I will cut the white stripes once as some of them are quite long. If I cut it in the end maybye it will be difficult to get the long ones š
Hi Irene, Iām also very excited to start making my first quilt. After opening the 3rd bag, Iām a bit confused, because I have a bigger piece of white fabric and only one coloured (pink/red) smaller piece. Is this correct? In the picture I see a black with spots fabric.
Regards,
Marilyn
Hi Marilyn, yes this is correct! There are two colorways. The dark blue with speckles belongs to the winter version. You can now see two inages in the blog post. One is for the qintwr version, one is for the Christmas version. Hope this helps!
Thank you very much for the explanation, Irene. Got iT now, š Wishing you a nice day. Regards, Marilyn
Heel leuk om mee te doen. Elke morgen n verrassing. Heel nieuwsgierig wat t t gaat worden.
What a lovely gifts so far! And I love the dark blue fabric.
One question, just to be sure. Do we remove the teabagpaper already, or leave it for later?
You can leave the teabag paper on until after the assembly. That is what I find the easiest way
Am getting caught up – already had to use seam ripper twice :( Hopefully that won’t happy for every sew day
Oh no.. hope the rest of the sewing will go smoothly!
