Fabrics! Oh don’t we love fabrics? Today we got our first fabrics for the advent project.

First things first

We will need to cut some bigger pieces from the off white fabric first.

Cut the following and set aside for later. The amounts below are for one project, cut double if you are making two at once.
– 1 strip: 2 3/4 x 10 1/2 inch
– 2 strips: 1 1/2 x 19 1/2 inch
– 4 strips: 1 x 5 1/2 inch

Sections A and B

After setting these pieces aside you can go ahead and sew sections A and B. Making pieces A2 and B1 the colored pieces, the rest will be off white.

When you finish sewing the sections you can square them up with a 1/4 inch seam all around.Β

Here are the sections sewn with the fabrics of the winter color scheme.

The Christmas color scheme starts with a lovely dark pink:

Hi Irene, I’m so excited to start this project, especially because it is the first time for me to make a quilt. I have a question about the thread. Do I use the thread in the box and is this enough to make the two projects or should I use regular thread?

I’m so excited to do this project, it was so much fun doing last year’s advent calendar! My question for today is just double checking – do we use the pieces of off white that we cut out for today’s steps, or are they all for future days?

Thank you Irene!!! I just wanted to know if all the fabrics will be enough for 2 – then I will cut the white stripes once as some of them are quite long. If I cut it in the end maybye it will be difficult to get the long ones πŸ˜…

Hi Irene, I’m also very excited to start making my first quilt. After opening the 3rd bag, I’m a bit confused, because I have a bigger piece of white fabric and only one coloured (pink/red) smaller piece. Is this correct? In the picture I see a black with spots fabric.

Regards,
Marilyn
